Drone Comb

Drone comb is an excellent Integrated Pest Management tool for managing Varroa Mites.  Place one drone comb per hive body in your hive.  Varroa mites favor the drone cell for breeding in because of the longer development period of drones.   Drone comb has a larger starter cell imprint. The queen senses the larger cell size and accordingly lays a drone egg.  When the comb is sufficiently filled out with drone brood, remove it and kill the brood.  (Most people just put the comb in the freezer).
